SPC Floor - Hard under foot, easy on the wallet
Share

When choosing a new floor, appearance matters—but so does what lies beneath the surface.
RenoHub’s new SPC flooring collection combines realistic wood styling with a dense, stone-based core engineered for demanding everyday use. Available in both herringbone and plank formats, it offers the elegant appearance of timber flooring with a stronger, more rigid construction.
For busy Irish homes, rental properties and light-commercial interiors, that hard-wearing construction can make all the difference.
What Is SPC Flooring?
SPC stands for **Stone Polymer Composite**. Its rigid core is manufactured using finely ground limestone combined with polymers and stabilising materials.
This mineral-rich composition gives SPC flooring its distinctive strength and rigidity. Unlike softer flooring materials or wood-fibre-based boards, SPC has a dense core that feels solid underfoot and helps the boards retain their shape.
It is important to understand that SPC is not simply another name for laminate. Its internal construction is fundamentally different. The strength comes from its limestone-based composite core, while the upper decorative layer provides the authentic appearance of natural wood.
The result is a floor that combines:
- A strong, rigid core
- Excellent everyday durability
- Realistic woodgrain detailing
- A compact overall profile
- Herringbone and plank design options
Why Is SPC Flooring So Hard-Wearing?
The durability of our SPC floor comes from the way its layers work together.
At the centre is the dense stone-polymer core. This provides the floor with rigidity and helps it withstand the pressure created by everyday foot traffic, furniture and active households.
Above the decorative woodgrain layer sits a substantial **0.5mm wear layer**. This transparent protective surface takes the daily punishment so that the printed floor design beneath it remains protected.
The wear layer is particularly important in high-use areas. Shoes, moving chairs, pets, toys and regular cleaning all place demands on a floor. A strong wear layer creates a protective barrier between that activity and the decorative finish.
This makes SPC an excellent choice for spaces such as:
- Living rooms
- Hallways
- Kitchens, subject to correct installation and room suitability
- Home offices
- Apartments
- Rental properties
- Shops and other suitable light-commercial interiors
No floor is indestructible, and sensible care is always recommended. However, SPC is specifically designed for interiors where durability cannot be an afterthought.
The Strength of a Stone-Polymer Core
Traditional timber and wood-fibre products can respond to changes in their surrounding environment. SPC takes a different approach.
Its core incorporates limestone—one of the reasons the board is so dense and dimensionally stable. The mineral composition creates a firm foundation beneath the decorative and protective surface layers.
This rigidity helps the flooring resist the everyday pressures that can cause softer materials to compress or move. It also allows the floor to deliver this strength without requiring an excessively thick board.
In simple terms, SPC provides **more performance within a slimmer profile**.
That makes it especially attractive for renovation projects where floor height, adjoining rooms, thresholds and existing doors must all be considered.
Our SPC Flooring Specification
RenoHub’s SPC collection has been selected to provide a strong balance of durability, appearance and practical construction.
Floor construction
- Main product depth: 4mm
- Wear layer: 0.5mm
- IXPE backing: 1.0mm
- Total depth: 5.5mm
The **0.5mm wear layer** protects the visual finish, while the **1.0mm IXPE backing** adds an integrated backing layer beneath the rigid board.
Together, these components create a total flooring depth of **5.5mm**.
Herringbone specification
- Board dimensions: 640 × 128mm
- Boards per pack: 14
- Coverage per pack: 1.15m² / 1.38yd²
- Boxes per pallet: 84
- Coverage per pallet: 96.60m² / 115.92yd²
Customers should always include an appropriate cutting and waste allowance when calculating quantities. Herringbone installations generally require a larger allowance than standard plank layouts because of pattern positioning and perimeter cuts.
Herringbone or Plank?
Our SPC collection is available in two distinct formats, allowing you to achieve different looks while retaining the advantages of the rigid-core construction.
SPC herringbone
Herringbone creates movement and character across a room. The repeating pattern can make the floor a central design feature and works particularly well in hallways, living areas and open-plan interiors.
It delivers a classic flooring pattern with the durability of a modern stone-polymer core.
SPC plank
Plank flooring creates a calmer, more continuous appearance. The longer visual lines can help a room feel spacious and work beautifully across both contemporary and traditional interiors.
It is an excellent option when you want the wood effect to feel natural and understated.
Three Carefully Selected Colours
The RenoHub SPC collection is available in three versatile wood finishes:
Atlantic Grey
A cool, contemporary grey with visible woodgrain detailing. Atlantic Grey works particularly well with modern interiors, monochrome colour schemes and dark furniture.
Mediterranean Oak
A warm, natural oak tone that adds richness without making a room feel overly dark. Mediterranean Oak is a versatile choice for both modern and traditional homes.
Pacific Beige
A lighter neutral finish designed to create a bright, relaxed atmosphere. Pacific Beige pairs beautifully with soft fabrics, natural timber furniture and warm neutral interiors.
Each colour is available in matching herringbone and plank styles, making it possible to carry a consistent tone through different rooms while changing the floor pattern.
A Floor Designed for Real Life
A floor should not only look good when it is first installed. It needs to continue performing through busy mornings, family gatherings, working from home and the constant movement of everyday life.
That is where SPC flooring earns its place.
Its stone-polymer core provides a dense, stable foundation. Its 0.5mm wear layer protects the finish. Its integrated IXPE backing completes a compact 5.5mm construction designed for practical modern interiors.
For homeowners who want the appearance of timber with a harder-wearing internal structure, SPC offers a compelling alternative.
